This artwork was created from listening to a young Haitian-American (Rodney Majuste aka Jacques Falaise) neighbor talk about his two tours as a solider in the Iraq war. He was eighteen and signed up for the army after having an argument with his stepfather on his eighteenth birthday. Six months later he was a soldier in the Iraq war. This painting interprets the feelings that the young soldier had upon returning to the U.S. after two tours. The meta-story is about how not enough or nothing is done to acclimate the soldiers back into civilian life. In this case, the young soldier just wanted a hotel room by himself but was not able to get one because he did not have a credit card.
